ReActiv8® is the first FDA approved rehabilitative neurostimulation therapy to treat mechanical chronic low back pain. ReActiv8® is a permanently implanted neuromodulation device that aims to reduce chronic low back pain by treating multifidus muscular inhibition and dysfunction.
Is the ReActiv8® device permanent or temporary? How often do I need to use it?
ReActiv8® is FDA approved for permanent implantation. The device includes placing two electrical leads outside of the spinal canal into the multifidus muscle to stimulate the muscles as well as their respective nerves. The ReActiv8® device is patient controlled system and will provide stimulation twice a day for 30 minutes.
Who is an appropriate patient for the ReActiv8® device system? What medical conditions are treated?
Restorative neurostimulation treatment requires a thorough history and physical examination to be conducted first. If you are a candidate for this procedure, Dr. Masri will discuss the procedure and protocol with you.
Patient who have the following symptoms that can be treated:
1. Chronic low back pain
2. Mechanical and/or nociceptive chronic low back pain
3. Nonspecific back pain
4. Multifidus muscle dysfunction
5. Patients who have failed physical therapy and medications for back pain.
Is there medical literature that demonstrates its benefit?
Yes, medical literature has demonstrated that the ReActiv8® device has demonstrated long term benefit thus far. Two year clinical outcome data has demonstrated 72% of patients reported a substantial improvement of low back pain.
